The world we live in consists of an extremely diverse human population which, throughout the ages, has developed distinct cultural & political norms specific to their religion and beliefs.

Today, this diversity has left us with a plethora of events, some traditional with a deep seeded history & some not-so-traditional developed purely for a specific need, that shed light into & allow us to experience cultures different from our own.

Special interest tourism is the provision of customised ‘niche’ tourism activities that caters to specific interests of groups & individuals. Special interest tourism is a type of holiday, replacing the traditional mass market travel packages & allows tourists to choose holidays appealing to their individual & personal needs. It involves individual or group tours by those people who wish to develop their given interests or visit sites & places that has a relation or connection with their specific interest or subject.

The market niche defines the product features aimed at satisfying specific market needs, as well as the price range, production quality & the demographics that it is intended to target. Locations with specific niche products are able to establish & position themselves, as niche tourism destinations

Special interest holidays are arranged to provide specific tourism products tailored to meet the needs of a particular audience / market segment. Unlike mass audiences, which represent a large number of people, a niche travel group is an influential smaller audience who travel to satisfy a particular interest (more cash but less time type travellers looking for better stimulating holidays) or need.

The industrial revolution gave birth to leisure travel & rise in disposable income has made tourism possible for a majority of the population all over the world and richer people can travel long distances to fulfil their interests. Money is a major factor influencing the special interest tourism sector. Ship cruising, train travel, air travel & self-drives are increasing. This has enabled people to visit places of their interest with convenience.

Special interest tourism is a type of tourism that facilitates the customisation of tourism activities to cater to the specific interests of individuals and / or groups. A particular need or interest is addressed in the special interest tourism sector. Many individuals wish to experience an authentic feel of cultural or social environments, which enables a positive engagement with the community & the type of interest that motivates people to travel. Nowadays, people are more confident about travelling abroad & looking for something different rather than for sun & sand holidays.  

Tour Operators, in this case, The Journeys arranges the necessary tour packages based on these special interests of the individuals or groups. For example, niche travel packages designed for professionals like Artists, Educationist, Historians, Lawyers etc & for enthusiasts interested tourism categories like Cycling & Walking,  Green Ecotourism, Wine & Culinary, Adventure, Rural & Cultural Heritage, Wildlife & Bird watching, Wellness & Medical, Volunteer tourism & so many more ‘niche’ interests. Each of these categories has its own motive & reason and can overlap in many certainties.

Please note currently all our Journeys are listed under the “Culture” theme before being transitioned gradually under the respective Headings.

Almost all of our Journeys are available on demand, allowing you to specify a departure date & group size. Private departures are ideal for family, friends & social groups.
