Know before you go

 

Although most of the planning and preparation is taken care of, for you, there are still a few things you should know and some details you should take care of to ensure your comfort, safety and peace of mind. Please review the following information before your departure to ensure that any surprises along the way will only be pleasant ones.

 

A little pre-planning can make your trip go a lot smoother. Some offhand but relevant information. Several weeks before your trip, make a list of what you will need to take with you. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas) are in order and that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip. We suggest that you make photocopies of passports, visas, and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement. We recommend that you pack a portable alarm clock.

  • It is each traveler's responsibility to have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure and to check if a Visa if required. Please check the information for the specific country/region you are visiting for more details. Passengers who are not U.S.& Canadian citizens must check with the respective consulate or a Visa Agency to determine what personal identification is required. Passport applications are available at most Canadian & U.S. Post Offices, as well as at regional Passport Agencies.
      
     
    For the latest available information on Visa and Passport requirements in the countries, please click here. But please do remember that Visa requirements can change with little or no notice. Please double-check foreign entry requirements for travellers from your country of nationality by contacting the local embassy or consulate for your destination country.

    CANADA :
    Canadians planning a trip are recommended to visit Passport Canada to obtain useful information. 
          
    You need a visa to enter many foreign countries. The requirements and processing times for your visa will depend on what you intend to do while you are abroad: visit, study or work. This section provides the information you need to determine whether you need a visa, how to obtain one before your departure, and how to renew or change the status of your visa while you are abroad.

However, please note the embassy or consulate of the country you plan to visit will always be able to provide definitive & updated information on visa requirements.     It is recommenced that you also consult the Country Travel Reports   containing country-specific information. Travel Reports offer information on safety and security, local laws and customs, entry requirements, health conditions and other important travel issues. Countries with an asterisk (*) currently contain a Travel Warning,
    indicating that Canadians should either avoid non-essential travel to the country or to specific region(s) of the country, or avoid all travel to the country or to specific region(s) of the country.
    Travelling to a country with a Travel Warning may impact your health insurance and/or trip cancellation insurance. The decision to travel is the sole responsibility of the individual.

    Canadians travellers are also recommended to register with Citizenship Canada which offers a Registration Service  for all Canadians travelling or living abroad. This service is provided so that the Department can contact and assist you in an emergency abroad, such as a natural disaster or civil unrest, or inform you of a family emergency at home.     UNITED STATES :
    It is the traveller’s responsibility to check & obtain the necessary Visa required to visit a particular country. Enchanting Journeys will not accept any liability if the documentation required is not complete. You can either contact the Embassy directly or engage one of the private Visa Services available in your area.

    Local embassy information is available below and at the Department of State’s list of Embassies & Consulates .

    American travellers are also recommended to register with the State Department. If you register, you would be kept up to date with important security / safety announcements, if any. It will also help your friends and family get in touch with you in an emergency.  Here’s the link to the Smart Traveler Enrolment Program. 
  •  Check with your personal physician for the latest overseas travel health information, or contact the Center for Disease Control’s   travelers’ hotline at 404-332-4559. 
     
    The Public Health Agency of Canada  and the World Health Organization (WHO) report on disease outbreaks that occur throughout the world. For the latest travel health advisories and related information, visit the Public Health Agency of Canada’s  Travel Health. 

    The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) recommends consulting a travel health clinic to find out if malaria poses a risk to travellers. For more information, see their     Travel Health Advisory.
     
    This site   is an absolute wealth of information on required and recommended vaccinations for travelling to all countries in the world. It also gives very helpful information on specific diseases and their symptoms, cures and prevention methods. 
  •  Bring comfortable walking shoes, a sweater, clothes you can layer and an all-weather jacket. Some religious sites may require modest dress to enter (no shorts, short skirts, or sleeveless tops).

  •  Each country and nationality is different from another in terms of standards and pre-determined set of criteria for going about and existing. A very good example for this is in terms of currency. The United States, for example, uses the dollar, while Japan uses the yen for all local financial transactions. These differences have given way to the necessity of international conversions.
     
     
    You would need to know about the currency at the destination and the relative value to the US Dollar. You can use this Currency Converter to ascertain average Exchange rates. The actual prevailing rate would be advised by the Bank or the Exchange Bureau when you convert.
