The world we live in consists of an extremely diverse human population which, throughout the ages, has developed distinct cultural & political norms specific to their religion and beliefs.

Today, this diversity has left us with a plethora of events, some traditional with a deep seeded history & some not-so-traditional developed purely for a specific need, that shed light into & allow us to experience cultures different from our own.

Motorcycle touring is a format of tourism that involves a motorcycle. Most non-bikers associate motorcycles with speed - some may even go as far as associating it with recklessness. When thinking about motorcycle trips, most people picture a badass rider on a classic Harley-Davidson, wearing trashy jeans, a fringe leather jacket and aviator glasses. The truth is that most people who own a motorcycle use it for touring, which is all about seeing places at your own pace. For first-timers, riding their motorcycle abroad is a life-changing experience filled with surprises. But all that planning & the stress of staying on track can also prove exhausting.

Traveling by motorcycle is one of the most liberating ways of exploring the world. The art of adventure riding a motorcycle is both a convenient, fun, independent & flexible way of traveling.  Motorcycle riding is a combination of exhilaration, fear, relaxation & pleasure that changes you forever. It is physical & emotional pleasure, with a layer of anxiety & adrenaline.

There is really no substitute for being the master of your own two-wheeled destiny, free to roam through the elements, exposed physically & emotionally to all the bliss and harshness this crazy little world has to offer. Your senses tingle with excitement every time you hit new terrain, every time the sun warms you, every time you pick up an exotic scent through the helmet. You truly ride the waves of euphoria, only to come crashing back down to Earth when the motorcycle Gods are against you: It is the very polarity of emotions that keeps you returning for more.

The roaring engine, the cool wind, the open road & the endless possibilities ahead, this is what bikers live for.  Some riders take touring to extremes with rides of thousands to over 100,000 miles or kilometers, and lasting years or decades

When you motorcycle, you notice smells in a way that you don’t when you travel by car, or even by bicycle. Part of it is because your senses are already heightened to begin with. Part of this is because you are traveling faster than a bicycle, so the smells change more frequently. Part of it is the fact that you have a large volume of air rushing by, so there are more molecules for your nose to pick up. Either way, for better or worse, you smell everything. Grass, trees, the ocean, exhaust, pollution, everything.

You notice the temperature change in ways that are very unique. You know how meteorologists on the news always show slight variations in temperature on the map  -  67, 64, 62 degrees, and you think, “Like it makes a difference?”. On a bike you start noticing micro-climates, big time. In fact, whenever your ride by a body of water that is close to the road, you will nearly always feel the temperature drop. You are exposed to the elements & will feel every nuance of weather. Temperature, moisture, everything. Moving through a tree lined section of road, you will feel that 2 degree drop & it will make you smile

Almost any motorcycle can be used for touring, but there are some that are better than others. Specific models address particular needs, especially for long-distance travel.

On long road trips, the inviting elements can become your worst enemies if you are not well prepared. Especially when heading out to unfamiliar countries, finding food, places to sleep & fuel in remote areas can be tricky, which is why you must be prepared. Motorcycle tours are a great adventure, and camping by the side of the road & sleeping under the stars adds more excitement. But after a few hours in the saddle, you will surely appreciate a warm bed & hot shower to get all that dirt & sweat off.
