Majestic Kenya… yours to experience...
Kenya Kaleidoscope
Africa. There's nowhere like it on the planet for wildlife, wild lands and rich traditions that endure. Prepare to fall in love. Whether you are a wide-eyed first-timer or a frequent visitor, Africa cannot fail to get under your skin.
Vast savannahs peppered with immense herds of wildlife. Snow-capped equatorial mountains. Traditional peoples who bring soul & colour to the earth. When you think of Africa, you are probably thinking of Kenya. Come……experience Kenya with us……
The canvas upon which the continent's epic story is written is itself astonishing & reason enough to visit. From the tropical rainforests & glorious tropical coastline of Central Africa to the rippling dunes of the Namib Desert, from the signature savannah of the Serengeti to jagged mountains, green-tinged highlands & deep-gash canyons that mark the Great Rift Valley's continental traverse - wherever you find yourself on this big, beautiful continent, Africa has few peers when it comes to natural beauty.
On this continent where human beings first came into existence, customs, traditions & ancient rites tie Africans to generations & ancestors past and to the collective memory of myriad people. In many rural areas it can feel as though the modern world might never have happened & they are all the better for it, and old ways of doing things - with a certain grace & civility, hospitality & a community spirit, survive. There are time-honoured ceremonies, music that dates back to the days of Africa's golden empires & masks that tell stories of spirit worlds never lost.
A Noah's ark of wildlife brings Africa's landscapes to life, with a tangible and sometimes profoundly mysterious presence that adds so much personality to the African wild. So many of the great beasts, including elephants, hippos & lions, call Africa home. Going on safari may be something of a travel cliche, but we are yet to find a traveller who has watched the wildlife world in motion in the Masai Mara, watched the epic battles between predator & prey in the Okavango Delta, or communed with gorillas & surfing hippos in Gabon and has not been reduced to an ecstatic state of childlike wonder.
Africa’s natural history alone would make a dozen visits worthwhile - where else on earth can you fall asleep to the sound of lions roaring, or watch a million flamingos take off from the waters of a remote soda lake? Parts of Africa boast scenery so spectacular they will damn near blow your mind, but the essence of this incredible continent isn’t in any desert, mountain or lake. It is the spirit of the people - pushing, shoving, sweating, dancing, singing & laughing - that infects so many visitors with a travel bug so powerful they’ll never stop coming back, sometimes against all sense or reason.
And now, let us talk about Kenya.
African Landscapes | Wildlife Bonanza | People & Culture
It is the lone acacia silhouetted on the savannah against a horizon stretching into eternity. It is the snow-capped mountain almost on the equator & within sight of harsh deserts. It is the lush, palm-fringed coastline of the Indian Ocean, it is the Great Rift Valley that once threatened to tear the continent asunder, and it is the dense forests reminiscent of the continent’s heart. In short, Kenya is a country of epic landforms that stir our deepest longings for this very special continent.
Kenya is the land of the Masai Mara, of wildebeest & zebras migrating in their millions with the great predators of Africa following in their wake, of endangered species like black rhinos managing to maintain their precarious foothold. But Kenya is also home to the red elephants of Tsavo, to Amboseli elephant families in the shadow of Mt Kilimanjaro & to the massed millions of pink flamingos stepping daintily through lake shallows. Africa is the last great wilderness where these creatures survive and Kenya is the perfect place to answer Africa’s call of the wild.
Filling the country's landscape, adding depth & resonance to Kenya’s age-old story, are some of Africa’s best-known peoples. The Maasai, the Samburu, the Turkana, the Swahili, the Kikuyu: these are the peoples whose histories & daily struggles tell the story of a country and of a continent - the struggle to maintain traditions as the modern world crowds in, the daily fight for survival in some of the harshest environments on earth, the ancient tension between those who farm & those who roam. Drawing near to these cultures could just be a highlight of your visit.
Kenya boasts 48 game parks, 9 marine national parks & reserves. Going on safari in Kenya is an experience of a lifetime. The Aberdare National Park is a fairy tale place of dense forest, misty moorlands & alpine plants. Further north is Samburu National Park, made up of 3 separate reserves - Samburu, Buffalo Springs & Shaba (where the third series of Survivor was filmed) - created by the Adamson family of “Born Free” fame.
Sit open-mouthed in wonder at the thundering thrills of the wildebeest migration, follow a pride of lions on the hunt or do a double-take as you see millions of flamingos transform a steel-blue lake into a pink carpet.
Kenya is where the concept of an African safari began & the magic of the open, game-packed savannahs still reverberates throughout this fascinating country.
The Masai Mara is the most popular destination for game viewing, particularly during the time of migration (July - October), when game is seen in incredible multitudes. To the east is Amboseli National Park, the ideal location from which to view Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Mount Kenya is one of the world’s highest national parks famous for its variety of wildlife & for the climbs offered on its ice cliffs & rock faces. Tsavo is the country’s largest national park and one of the world’s biggest game sanctuaries, with over 60 major species of mammal.
Kenya & Tanzania are the best countries to witness the Migration. This is a phenomenon that is beyond description - this mass exodus of 1.5 million wildebeest together with half a million zebra on a 500 mile route is one of the greatest spectacles on earth.
No safari in Kenya is complete without a visit to Kenya’s finest game reserve - the Masai Mara. With its open savannahs and rolling grasslands it offers a dazzling array of wildlife. In all, this safari will ensure that you have experienced the best of the Kenyan heart & soul.
Lying astride the Equator, Kenya is well known for its diversity and this 10 day safari offers a kaleidoscopic view of Kenya’s four major game reserves. As you traverse northward & down from the cool highlands of Mt. Kenya into the thorny scrub & acacia dotted savannah of Shaba National Reserve, behold the sight of a leopard straddling a branch or of Grevy’s zebra calmly grazing in these sun-scorched grasslands.
In contrast, the Aberdare Mountain Range, located on the edge of Kenya’s Rift Valley is forested lands with very rewarding game viewing from the decks of one of the famous tree lodges. Here lion, leopard, buffalo & elephant abound and there are rare sightings of the Golden Cat.
Lake Nakuru National Park is an ornithologist’s paradise with an abundance of birdlife and is a sanctuary for the black rhino. And finally there is Masai Mara, Kenya’s finest game reserve, home to the world-famous annual wildebeest migration. Numbering in millions, the wildebeest, in a vast ensemble, migrate north from the Serengeti plains in search of fresh pastures and return south some five months later. The Great Migration is one of the most impressive natural events worldwide.
Featuring four very different game viewing experiences, thousands of animals & all in 10 days! An incredible adventure, this cost effective private guided expedition should be considered by those who want to experience the classic safari in the shortest time.
Now this is Africa! Journey to the endless plains & lush mountains and get your blood pumping. Your heart will race when your small 4x4 safari van gets you closer to the incredible wildlife than you ever imagined on a game drive. Yep, Kenya is waiting, and The Journeys is ready to take you on well, a journey (or journeys) of discovery.
Come……be inspired & discover the World

How do you capture the essence of Africa on paper without using up every cliche in the book? No other Continent comes close to it for scale, variety & pure, raw impact. Something special about Africa touches the soul; it is a Continent of 54 immensely diverse countries that is both deeply troubled & profoundly uplifting. The Big 5, a beautiful diversity of Landscapes, Animals, Flora & Fauna & of course, fascinating Cultures.
East Africa is a wild realm of extraordinary Landscapes, People & Wildlife in one of the Planet's most beautiful corners. A Cradle of Mankind, as the first species of the Homo genus evolved here & migrated to the rest of the world. The 2 highest mountains in Africa are located here: Mount Kilimanjaro & Mount Kenya. River Nile, the longest in Africa originates from Africa's biggest lake, Lake Nyanza (also known as Lake Victoria).
& Kenya is where the concept of an African Safari began - the magic of the open, Kenya is the land of the Masai Mara, of Wildebeest & Zebras migrating in their millions with the great predators following in their wake, of endangered species like black Rhinos managing to maintain their precarious foothold. Also home to the red Elephants of Tsavo to the massed millions of pink Flamingos stepping daintily through lake shallows. The name "Nairobi" comes from the Maasai phrase Enkare Nyirobi, which translates to "the place of cool waters". However, it is popularly known as the "Green City in the Sun" & is surrounded by several expanding Villa suburbs. The locals are popularly nicknamed 'Nairobians'. A vibrant City with a mix of Races & Cultures, it provides Tourists with Museums, a National Park, Golf Courses, Resorts & posh Night Clubs.
Nairobi is an exciting, frenetic concrete jungle that counterpoints the untrammelled natural beauty to be found elsewhere in the country. One of the largest & most influential cities & an important Financial, Commercial regional Hub.
With a population of over 1 million, Nairobi started life as a simple Railway Depot in 1899, linking Mombasa to Uganda & quickly grew to become the Capital of British East Africa in 1907 & eventually the Capital of a free Kenyan Republic in 1963. During the Colonial period, the City became a centre for the Colony's Coffee, Tea & Sisal industry.
Located on the banks of the Nairobi River, in southern Kenya, the Skyline is dominated by modern high-rise buildings & is a Tourism & Trade Hub. It plays host to major international bodies like the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP, UNHABITAT. The City’s business friendly environment makes it suitable to host such august bodies & Investors are scrambling for a share in the Capital.
Nairobi is a city full of contrasts. It is old enough that you can feel its past & multi-ethnic enough for you to experience its rich Kenyan culture.
Nairobi is the city that never sleeps & like other parts of sub-Saharan Africa, Nairobi has a vibrant & growing social scene known for its Nightlife, buzzing with a wide variety of entertainment joints from Restaurants, trendy Clubs, Discos. Cinemas & Theatres, Gaming & Casinos, Festivals & Concerts etc.
Most of these entertainment Hubs are usually open all week but are most bubbly on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays when Nairobians seek to get a break from the busy week. Rowdy Nightclubs keep revelers dancing until dawn. Local & Continental hits are dominant on the region's dance-floors, though American hip-hop, Western EDM & Caribbean music also has a steady presence. In the 2010s, a homegrown alternative electronic scene developed, characterized by a frenzy of Music & Dances.
Local Bars are widespread, often decked out in the colors of a local Beer brand. These can be as simple as a couple of plastic tables & chairs set up on a roadside to more elaborate Multi-bar Complexes. Note that Music is often played at a volume that non-Africans would consider abnormally loud, even when there is no obvious place to dance.
Nairobi has the best diverse shopping areas in East Africa providing access to many local & international brands, products & services. Business Bay Square Mall in Eastleigh, is the largest Mall in entire East Africa. Maasai Market provides a perfect chance for travellers to acquire a variety of Kenyan-made souvenirs & gifts. This sought-after Market offers a diverse selection of items, including Curios, Paintings, Drawings, Clothing, Fabrics featuring East African prints, Jewelry & Wood Carvings.
There are many Options for those who have the time & inclination to explore Nairobi. Some of the landmarks are Giraffe Centre, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Karura Forest, Mamba Village, Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi National Museum, Snake Park and Botanic Garden, Karen Blixen Museum, Railway Museum, Nairobi Gallery, Kenya National Archives, Nairobi Arboretum, Uhuru Park, Central Park, Uhuru Gardens, Michuki Park, City Park, Kazuri Beads, Godown Arts Centre, historical monuments & buildings.
It is the only Capital city in the world with a National Park - home to a plethora of wildlife, including the highest concentration of black Rhinos in all of Africa - within its boundaries & a melting pot for many Kenyan cultures. Dubbed the “Safari Capital of the World” cool, clear Nairobi is the natural departure point for most Safari itineraries on Kenya. A city of contrasts, it is simultaneously the largest, the youngest, the most modern, the highest (1700 metres) & the fastest growing in entire East Africa.

Day 3 - | Nairobi v Shaba National Reserve Drive: 164 km
Early morning, enjoy the scenic commute as your guide drives you down the cool slopes of Mt. Kenya, across the plain of Laikipia, to your final destination, the sandy desert region of Samburu.
The Samburu / Shaba National Reserve is located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro river in Kenya in northern Kenya. Off the beaten minibus safari track, it is a part of three national reserves grouped together, Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba. The Reserve stretch along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River & cover an area of about 300 km2. Although it is not far from the Mt Kenya foothills, the geography here is vastly different, with desert scrub & savannah plains. Samburu is 165 km² in size & is distinctive for its arid plains and herds of animals drawn to the river & water holes. Photographers love this park for its stark lighting & contrasts. In the arid North of Kenya, water means life. The river draws wildlife in great numbers to its banks, providing high quality game viewing.
The tree-lined river is permanent & attracts a lot of game. You are almost guaranteed to see elephant here, but unfortunately rhino have long been wiped out by poachers. The river also attracts buffalo, reticulated giraffe, cheetah, leopard, lion, warthogs & grev's zebra and you may even spot a crocodile sunning on the banks.
You can also see a variety of stunning birdlife. Samburu region is also home to Samburu herdsmen, who can be seen driving their herds through the dust, dressed in striking red blankets & carrying spears.
Another species unique to the Samburu region is the Gerenuk. With luck, you will see some while on your game drive. It is amazing to watch them stand on their hind legs to eat! The Gerenuk also known as the Waller's Gazelle, is a long-necked species of antelope found in dry bushy shrub & steppe in East Africa. The word Gerenuk comes from the Somali language, meaning “giraffe-necked” & leads to another common name, the Giraffe-necked Antelope.
Check-in on arrival at the lodge located inside the Reserve.
All accommodation & central areas have views of the river and the nearby waterhole, where large herds of elephants and other wildlife come to drink. You can enjoy unobstructed views of game along the river banks and the waterhole.
Proceed for an afternoon game drive to observe the abundant wildlife in this region.
Balance of the day free to relax or optional activities (we would be happy to offer suggestions & make arrangements).
Overnight. B L D
Day 4 - | Shaba National Reserve
A full day of game viewing & exploration allows ample opportunity to observe the abundant wildlife in this region. You can enjoy unobstructed views of game along the river banks & the waterhole. Shaba National Reserve is where the famous conservationist George Adamson did his research on lions.
Later visit a local school in Samburu.
Balance of the day free to relax or optional activities (we would be happy to offer suggestions & make arrangements).
Overnight. B L D
Day 5 - | Shaba National Reserve v Aberdare National Park Drive: 214 km
Early morning, depart from Samburu to arrive at the market town of Nyeri in time for lunch. This is where Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boys’ Scout movement spent the last years of his life and is buried in a cemetery just outside the town.
After lunch, drive through to the Aberdare National Park.
The Aberdare National Park, located not far from Nairobi, was created in 1950 to protect the forested slopes & moors of the Aberdare Mountains. The park has elephant, lion, rhino, black leopard & the beautiful but elusive bongo antelope, and is often part of a bigger safari itinerary that takes in one of the other big Reserves.
The Aberdare retain an air of mystery and it would be easy to get lost amongst its thickly wooded hills & mountains, the highest of which reaches to a lofty 14,000 feet (4,267m). The mountain air is rare & crisp and the Aberdare Rainforest is a vital water catchment supplying the whole of Nairobi. Water cascades over spectacular waterfalls & into rivers swimming with trout.
Nocturnal game viewing is taken so seriously round these parts that there is a bell in each room which sounds if an unusual animal turns up at the waterhole. You are woken up for particularly good sightings, whereupon you can go to the viewing decks or just peer out of your window. For example a leopard may warrant two rings, while a hyena might only get one ring. Elephants dominate the waterholes & salt licks and when the lions & hyenas want a drink they have to contend with elephants seeing them off at great speed. Leopards are shy & are best seen under the night-time floodlight. Positioned by waterholes & natural salt licks, animals provide constant entertainment & seem undisturbed by the stream of curious visitors, some of whom stay up all night to catch sightings of shy animals by floodlight.
Aberdare National Park is famous for its tree-house hotels - Treetops & The Ark. The lodges are one of the main attractions of the Aberdares. Both Treetops and The Ark are built above the ground beside floodlit waterholes with salt licks. With walkways and accommodation raised into the forest canopy, you can watch animals from a unique vantage point. The hotel is reached via a gangway which takes you to the level of the forest top.
There is even a viewing hide dug below ground with windows level with the waterhole, where elephants fee come within inches of your face. Visitors can observe different animals, such as elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, rhinos etc from here. These animals come to the waterhole & can be seen from the comfort & secure places nearby.
Treetops is one of Kenya's most famous hotels - this is where British Princess Elizabeth was informed that she had become Queen in 1952 on news of her father's death.
Check-in at the Treetops & enjoy game viewing from your window.
Afternoon, game drive or walk through the forest may reveal some of the monkeys for whom this is ideal habitat, and some of the many birds found here. At about 10,000 feet (3,048m), the bamboo thickets are the favourite haunt of the bongo, a rare & elusive forest antelope.
Balance of the day free to relax or optional activities (we would be happy to offer suggestions & make arrangements).
Overnight. B L D
Day 6 - | Aberdare National Park v Masai Mara National Reserve Drive: 324 km
Set off after breakfast for the Masai Mara National Reserve, birdwatching enroute..
Dream of Africa & chances are that you dream of the Masai Mara. This huge expanse of gently rolling grassland - specked with flat-topped acacia trees & trampled by massive herds of zebras & wildebeest - is the ultimate African cliche. But for once the reality lives up to the image & the Masai Mara, which comprises not just the famous reserve but also around a dozen community conservancies, several group ranches & numerous Maasai villages, is for many people not just the highlight of their Kenyan adventure but the very reason they came in the first place.
Masai Mara National Reserve is Kenya's finest wildlife reserve. Everything about this reserve is outstanding. The wildlife is abundant & the gentle rolling grasslands ensure that animals are never out of sight. Birds, too, are prolific. Including migrants, well over 450 species have been recorded, among them, 57 species of birds of prey.
The climate is gentle, rarely too hot & well-spread rainfall year round. Rain, when it falls almost always chooses the late afternoon or night. Between July & October, when the great wildebeest migration is in the Masai Mara Game Reserve, the sensation is unparalleled. Masai Mara is one of the best plains' game reserve where you can actually encounter a live Discovery Channel, a haven for viewing a congregation of all sorts of animals in a five-mile radius: A pride of lions can be spotted ready to make a run for a gazelle, a cheetah & its cub taking a nap on a rock, a pair of ostriches walking the open stretches of the savannah or a gazelle giving birth.
Check-in on arrival.

Territorial fights are commonplace. The Migration, now declared the Seventh Wonder of the World is best seen in the Maasai Mara between June and November.

Due to these constant sold- out situations the hotels are applying the cancellation rules more stringently. Once the reservation is guaranteed, the booking will be subject to full cancellation charges as per our Terms & Conditions (details will be advised at the time of deposit). We strongly recommend obtaining Insurance to protect yourself against any unforeseen scenarios.
- Additional services including Optionals, if any, can be paid directly by the clients to our local offices.
