From the baguette, bicycle beret, to the cutting contemporary edge of art, architecture & fashion, France is a country that dances to the contrasting tunes of tradition & modernity with perfect poise. Steeped in history, but not stuck in it, it delivers the expected & the unexpected in equal measure, making even your 50th visit as fun as your first. These deep & broad influences have made France a world leader throughout history in nearly all aspects of culture, including cuisine, wine-making, politics, philosophy, music, art, film, fashion, literature & sports.

Why not begin your discovery of Paris by taking a stroll along some of the charming Parisian Avenues & Boulevards, shop in charming boutiques or simply people watch from a Parisian Cafe.
Paris is the country`s largest city & can be seen as the most interesting in Europe & probably even as one of the most amazing citys worldwide. Today, one of the world`s leading business & cultural centre, its influence in Politics, Education, Entertainment, Media, Fashion, Science & the Arts all contribute to its status as one of the world`s major global cities. People from all over the world travel here to discover & experience this fairy-tale city.
Paris has a timeless familiarity for first-time & frequent visitors, with instantly recognisable architectural icons, along with exquisite cuisine, chic boutiques & priceless artistic treasures.
There are numerous iconic landmarks among its many attractions, along with world famous Institutions & popular Parks. The night scene, the Eiffel Tower & the warm atmosphere will make you feel directly at home. Paris has a lot of interesting architecture & Museums to offer & is also a Walhalla for shopaholics. A city as culturally rich as Paris is one that everyone should visit & experience.
Paris? This is a world! Each of its neighbourhood is explored as a country, from the village of Montmartre to the Latin Quarter & the cradle of the Ile de la Cite. And every stone tells us about art, from the centuries old Louvre Museum to the futuristic Louis Vuitton Foundation.
Also called City of Fashion, it is currently home to the headquarters of most of the famous haute couture ('high sewing' or 'high dressmaking' or 'high fashion') Designers like Rochas, Vuitton, Balenciaga, Celine, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, Chloe, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Hermes & Lanvin.
Paris is just the icing on the cake - with its fine boulevards & its river Seine, its culture, its restaurants & its unique atmosphere. A city that you can visit for a week or a month or a year & never tire of. In the memorable words of Thomas Jefferson, "A walk about in Paris will provide lessons in history, beauty & in the point of life". And much more too. But Paris is just a starting point. France is much, so much more than just Paris.
More than just love, the romantic side of Paris, wake up other emotions, thanks to its beautiful & unique architecture & places. The Basilica Sacre Coeur, the Arc de Triomphe etc. are a proof of the wonderful historic Parisian architecture that makes Paris the most romantic city on Earth.
With over 50,000 street lights across the city, it is no surprise that Paris is now referred to as the City of Light. In addition, 33 of Paris' 37 major Bridges are illuminated each night.
Paris’ dining is iconic: France’s reputation for its cuisine (the French word for ‘kitchen’) precedes it & whether you seek a cosy neighbourhood bistro or a triple Michelin starred Temple to Gastronomy, you will find every establishment prides itself on exquisite preparation & presentation of quality produce, invariably served with wine. Enticing Patisseries, Boulangeries (bakeries), Fromageries (cheese shops) & crowded, colourful street markets are perfect for packing a picnic to take to the city’s Parks & Gardens.

Experience the beauty & heritage of the French Capital in 3 different ways.
You will board a panoramic Coach & drive around the city for an hour, learning about the city's history & its well-known monuments, listening to an audio guide commentary on your individual headsets. Commentary in English takes you through the centuries &d tells you about the history of Paris and the richness of the city’s cultural, architectural & artistic heritage.
You will drive around ‘some’ unique sights, such as Place de l’Opera Square, Place de la Concorde Square, the Champs-Élysees, the Arc de Triomphe, Place du Trocadero Square, the Invalides, the Pont-Neuf Bridge, the Bastille Opera House & its square, Notre Dame de Paris, the Luxembourg Gardens & Saint Germain des Pres (all from outside only).
Next stop will be the iconic 1024 feet Eiffel Tower. Here you will have the time to walk around on your own. You will be able to take the elevator to go up to the 1st floor Observation Deck for uninterrupted views of Paris stretching out as far as the eye can see.
The Tower was built by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. It took 2 years, 2 months & 5 days to finish & was a veritable technical & architectural achievement, a demonstration of French engineering personified by Eiffel, a symbol of technological prowess & a defining moment of the industrial era. It was met immediately with tremendous success. Only intended to last 20 years, it was saved by the scientific experiments that Eiffel encouraged & in particular, by the first radio transmissions, followed by telecommunications.
An engineer by training, Eiffel founded & developed a company specializing in metal structural work, whose crowning achievement was the Eiffel Tower. He devoted the last 30 years of his life to his experimental research.
His outstanding career as a constructor was marked by a large number of fine buildings, among which 2 of the most outstanding are the twin edifices of the Porto viaduct over the river Douro in 1876 & the Garabit viaduct in the Cantal region of France in 1884, Pest Railway Station in Hungary, the dome of the Nice Observatory & the ingenious structure of the Statue of Liberty in New York, culminating with his final triumph building the Eiffel Tower.
From the esplanade to the 1st floor at 187 feet (going higher requires another Admission Fee, extra payment), you will experience a whole series of emotions. Soak in the breathtakingly unique views of Paris from every floor, feel the goose bumps as you walk the glass floor on the 1st floor, experience the incredible ascent by stairway or lift, the indescribable awe at the tonnes of iron above you as you stand on the esplanade. Vertigo grips you as you leave the lift & see the people down on the Champs-de-Mars & the cars driving along Trocadero!
The Tower’s speciality shops on the esplanade & 1st & 2nd floors sell a wide range of products & souvenirs (gourmet, fabrics, home, etc.).
We have also arranged for a memorable lunch at the contemporary trendy Madame Brasserie restaurant on the 1st floor. Taste fresh seasonal produce with our 2 course Menu.
On the specified time, you will proceed (on your own, no Tour-guide) to the Pier located at the foot of the Eiffel Tower & step aboard a glass covered boat with an open-air terrace.
Enjoy a fantastic - 1 hour - audio guided Cruise along the Seine River. Admire the stunning architecture of the capital's most prestigious monuments that line the banks - pass by the Louvre Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Orsay Museum, the Conciergerie, etc. Be captivated by this river trip under Paris's bridges, past Parisians going about their business as they walk or cycle by.
The Boat will return to the boarding point at Eiffel Tower’s Pier where the Tour ends.
And you will find your own way to the hotel.
Balance of the day is at leisure or for Optional activities (we will be happy to offer suggestions & make arrangements).

Colmar is a small town in the Grand Est region of Province d'Alsace, situated on the Alsatian Wine Route with local Vineyards specializing in Riesling & Gewurztraminer wines & considered as the Capitale des Vins d'Alsace (capital of Alsatian wine).
Alsace the Rhine River plain, was historically a part of the Holy Roman Empire. Bordering Germany & Switzerland, it has alternated between German & French control over the centuries & reflects a mix of those cultures. German traits remain in the more traditional, rural parts of the culture, such as the cuisine & architecture, whereas modern institutions are totally dominated by French culture. Its Capital, Strasbourg, is centered on the Ill River’s Grand Ile Island.
Province d'Alsace was an administrative region of the Kingdom of France & one of the many provinces formed in the late 1600s. In 1648, the Landgraviate of Upper-Alsace was absorbed into the Kingdom of France & subsequently became the Province of Alsace, which it remains as an integral part of for almost 150 years. In 1790, as a result of the Decree dividing France into various Departments (smaller regions), the Province was disestablished & split into 3 Departments - Bas-Rhin (Lower Rhine), Haut-Rhin (Upper Rhine) & part of Moselle.
Colmar was first mentioned by Charlemagne in his chronicle about Saxon wars as the location where the Carolingian Emperor Charles the Fat held a Diet in 884 & the city was granted the status of a free imperial city by Emperor Frederick II in 1226. The city adopted the Protestant Reformation in 1575, long after the northern neighbours of Strasbourg & Selestat. During the Thirty Years' War, it was taken by the Swedish army in 1632, which held it for 2 years.
The city was conquered by France under King Louis XIV in 1673 & officially ceded by the 1679 Treaties of Nijmegen. With the rest of Alsace, Colmar was annexed by the newly formed German Empire in 1871 as a result of the Franco-Prussian War & incorporated into the Alsace-Lorraine province. It returned to France after World War I according to the 1919 Treaty of Versailles, was annexed by Nazi Germany in 1940 & then reverted back to French control again after the battle of the "Colmar Pocket" in 1945. The Colmar Treasure, a hoard of precious objects hidden by Jews during the Black Death, was discovered here in 1863.
Colmar looks as though it has been plucked from the pages of a medieval folk tale. The peaceful & quiet city is renowned for its well-preserved alley-woven Old Town, its numerous architectural landmarks
Colmar with its architecture & streets have nothing to envy to Strasbourg. Smaller in size, it fully corresponds to a typical small Alsatian town, ideal for families, unlike Strasbourg which is a much more populated & less warm city.
Quaintness aside, Colmar’s illustrious past is clearly etched in its magnificent Churches & Museums, including the Unterlinden which houses the revered Isenheim Altarpiece which celebrate local legends like Bartholdi (of Statue of Liberty fame). The Gothic 13th century, Eglise Saint-Martin Church & Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg with its animated astronomical clock, stands on central Place de la Cathedrale bordered by Canals.
Wandering the streets of Colmar is like stepping into a fairy-tale. Its Old Town has cobblestone lanes & bridge laced canals, lined colorful half-timbered medieval & early Renaissance houses in chalk-box colours.
Why not begin your discovery of Colmar by taking a stroll along Little Venice?. The area was nicknamed Little Venice due to perfectly aligned houses along the Canal on Lauch river which crosses the city & passes by the Fish Market quay from behind Koifhus, going all the way to Turenne & Saint-Pierre Bridges. You can also admire the many colorful, century-old, half-timbered houses decorated with geraniums along the Canal, or board a boat on the Lauch.
You can also visit the Covered Market dating from 1865, which offers the possibility to discover the local products & the Alsatian gastronomy inside this brick & metal building.
Overnight. B
Day 04 - 16 September Saturday |Colmar vSainte Marie aux Mines vColmar Drive: 45 km
Morning, get ready to drive at 08.30 am to Sainte Marie aux Mines to participate in the internationally renowned European Patchwork Meeting - a unique event dedicated to Textile, Patchwork, Embroidery.
Sainte Marie aux Mines is a commune in the Haut-Rhin department & Grand Est region of north-eastern France. As the name suggests, Sainte Marie aux Mines draws its fame from the Mines on which the township is built, which have been known since Roman antiquity & excavated for precious metals such as antimony.
The district whose first traces of operation date from the 10th century is one of the most significant silver-bearing mining area & the main metallic ore bearing hydro-thermal seams of this type in France, as indicated by Monnet soon as the 18th century: "All those who share some knowledge about the history of mines should count those of Sainte Marie among the richest & the oldest in the whole the world, exceeding all others for richness & diversity of minerals”.
Historically since 16th century, the SMAM Valley was separated in length. The north side was a Regency under Lorraine Dukes & the opposite side belonged to the Austrian Habsburgs & governed by the Rappoltstein Family (Ribeaupierre).
Lorrain side included the rich & renowned Silver Mines & Sanct Jacob of Lorraine was probably the richest one of all districts. The Mines on the Alsatian side were divided into 3 distinct sectors during several centuries - Altenberg mountain was the oldest worked sector, probably since the 10th century ; Neuenberg was started in 1549 ; Bluttenberg next to Brezouard mountain isn't so well developed.
At the time when the deep silver veins got poorer, a terrible outbreak had befallen the souls of the region. Both the Plague & the 30 year War (1633-1663) began to hurt mining operations & ultimately all the Mines had to close. It was not until the early 18th century that Mining picked up again but the production & profitability did not reach the previous level & there were closings again.
Resurgence of the Mining industry commenced again in 1960s with the exploration of networks. About 40 km of Veins were rediscovered - 26 km in Neuenberg, only 8 on the Lorraine side & 6 in Altenberg. The town is also currently the site of one of the largest Mineral & Mining Trade Shows in Europe.
Due to ancient mining, the valley where Sainte Marie aux Mines is located is today often called the Val d’Argent (Silver Valley). A visit to the region should always include a visit to the historical silver mines & the International Mineral Exchange market. It is only natural that various jewellery workshops have chosen the “Capital of Mineralogy” to set up shop.
L’Atelier d’Emeraude (the Emerald Workshop) is a trailblazer & driving force, has gradually developed into a respected Training School for adults, offering short-term apprenticeship & professional training.
Two Jewellery Designers L’Etabli des Arts (Art Establishment Workshop) & L’Atelier de Chlor G have also started selling their creations & offering Workshops where you can create your own jewellery - a multi-faceted experience!
Over the years, Sainte Marie aux Mines also welcomed numerous religious communities on its territory. Specifically, it has been the cradle of the Amish movement since 1693 & it possesses one of the oldest French Reformed Temples.
Considered as the cradle of the Amish movement, the villages of the Val d'Argent (Alsace) open their most beautiful venues & welcome an unforgettable Festival of Colors & Materials, with each year more than 30 Exhibitions of international Artists.
One of the world's top 3 Textile Arts events, European Patchwork Meeting held here annually encompasses all forms of Textile Art - Patchwork to Embroidery, mixed media, Dyeing, Crochet & Lace.
The Exhibition venues are spread over the 4 villages of Val d'Argent, - Sainte Marie aux Mines, Sainte Croix aux Mines, Liepvre & Rombach le Franc.
A commercial area of more than 4500 square meters of specialized Stands, full of supplies, new ideas, materials & presenting the latest trends & products from the World of Yarn, spread over historical buildings, Festival Halls or Churches is the scene of 4 days of celebration dedicated to Textile Arts & Patchwork.
More than 1000 Artworks are displayed. And to put the Artists' techniques into practice, there is nothing better than the Fashion Shows & more than 20 specialised Workshops & Seminars offered by renowned teachers for the lovers of the Art of Thread.
Spend the day strolling around to explore the Displays, participating in Workshops & interacting with the Artists.
The events for the day conclude by 06.00 pm & you are transferred back to the hotel.
Balance of the evening is free for independent exploration (we will be happy to offer suggestions).

Day 06 - 18 September Monday | Colmar vBeaune vLyon Drive: 263 + 160 km
Morning, Check-out & depart for Lyon.
Enroute, stop at Beaune, the unofficial Capital of the Cote d'Or.
Welcome to Beaune, Capital of the great Burgundy Wines! The thriving town's raison d'etre & the source of its joie de vivre is wine: making it, tasting it, selling it, but most of all, drinking it. Consequently, Beaune is the epicenter of Burgundy's wine trade & one of the best places in all of France for Tasting & one of Burgundy's top tourist destinations.
An ancient town encircled by medieval ramparts, in the heart of Burgundy, famed for its significant production of Burgundian Wines & Wine Estates & Vineyards. Beaune is compact, making it a great city for walking.
There is no shortage of sites to see & experiences to be had, thanks to its long history from the pre-Roman era through to the Renaissance, world-class gastronomy & surrounding countryside blanketed by grapevines.
The old Town Center is surrounded by a Ring Street that follows the old city walls. Discover its cultural heritage dating back to the Middle Ages & the history of the Dukes of Burgundy & the labyrinth of wine cellars hidden beneath the city's streets dating back several centuries, where some of the world's most prestigious wines repose.
At the heart of the ancient town, the Basilica Collegiale Notre Dame is one of Burgundy’s last great Romanesque Churches. Discover the well- preserved small streets of the historic ramparts stretching over 2.5 km along ancient Walls & Watch Towers.
In addition to the wine, the jewel of Beaune's cobbled old city is the magnificent Hospices de Beaune (Hotel-Dieu), France's most splendiferous medieval Charity Hospital for the poor.
In 1443, Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor to Phillipe Le Bon, Duke of Burgundy & his wife, Guigone de Salins, decided to found a hospital, a ‘Palace of the Poor’. Its architecture, inspired by the Flemish models, is organised around a spectacular courtyard. Marvel at its wooden-panelled Gallery, its Turrets & bright multi-coloured geometric-patterned tiled Roofs, considered the very symbol of Burgundy.
Today, the architectural marvel serves as the Hotel-Dieu Museum, showcasing works like "The Last Judgement" altarpiece by Van der Weyden.
The former hospital still continues in charitable endeavours. Each year over the course of 3 days, wine from 60 hectares of donated land of the highest designations (Grand Cru & Premier Cru) is auctioned off, serving not only as a benchmark for the wine trade, resulting in large sums of money, which is donated to one or more Charities.
Once you leave the historical ramparts behind, you will be right at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Cote d'Or Vineyards, surrounding the town.
The best shopping streets are rue de Lorraine, rue d`Alsace, rue Maufoux & place de la Madeleine. There are plenty of designer labels, vintners & antique dealers. Stroll down the pedestrian rue Carnot & rue Monge. There are many fine-dining establishments & Wine Tastings & tours of the Cellars.
There is a very crowded outdoor Saturday market in Place de la Halle in the Town Centre, beside the famous Hospices, which features over 100 Vendors supplying the townspeople & visitors alike with fresh produce, meats, cheeses & pretty well any culinary staple imaginable. Full of wine, charming architecture, and delightful cuisine, a visit to this Burgundian village is a must.
On the flip-side, there is the iconic Voie des Vignes cycle route.
Spend 2 hours strolling around the town before continuing on your journey.
Arrive in Lyon by late afternoon & Check-in at the hotel.
Balance of the day is at leisure for independent exploration or Optional activities (we will be happy to offer suggestions & make arrangements).

Some important notes
- Flights are subject to constant modifications / delays and cancellations. In such cases, we will do all possible to find the best available alternative / solution but will not accept any liability, whatsoever.
- Our rates only include those items which are specified in the Itinerary / Inclusions.
- The cost has been calculated on the existing tariffs / conditions and in case of any currency fluctuations or amendment in local Government taxes, or any fuel hike, we reserve the right to revise the tour price accordingly.
- Our quotations are calculated on base category of accommodation at each property and are subject to modification, if the same hotel / category of room not available at the time of reservation. In that case, we will confirm a superior category of room at a comparable or better hotel and supplement charges, if any, shall be advised accordingly. Final Itinerary will illustrate updated information and / or it would be furnished at the time of confirmation.
- All prices are per person, based on double occupancy, and subject to availability at the time of booking. The from price reflects the lowest available price at time of publication, which is valid for a specific start date or dates and also based on availability at the time of booking.
- Room availability is getting saturated due to heavy demands from the tourism industry, international Fairs and Congresses. Due to these constant sold- out situations the hotels are applying the cancellation rules more stringently. Once the reservation is guaranteed, the booking will be subject to full cancellation charges as per our Terms & Conditions (details will be advised at the time of deposit). We strongly recommend obtaining Insurance to protect yourself against any unforeseen scenarios.
- Additional services including Optionals, if any, can be paid directly by the clients to our local offices.
The Journeys strongly recommends that all Guests purchase appropriate Travel Insurance (Trip Cancellation / Interruption & Medical) to cover any eventuality & / or Emergency. Between missed Connections, lost or delayed Luggage, or Medical Emergencies, you want some peace of mind that your travel investment is well protected. No matter who you buy from, please consider purchasing a Travel Protection Plan before you travel. Still unsure? Talk to us.
