Majestic Rainbow Kingdom …..time to go is now….

“ The world is a book, & those who do not travel read only one page.” – Saint Augustin“

Africa. There is nowhere like it on the planet for wildlife, wild lands and rich traditions that endure. Prepare to fall in love.

An astonishingly diverse region fused by its prolific wildlife, breathtaking landscapes & remnants of ancient culture, Southern Africa is Africa at its most memorable. Black-maned lions framed against Kalahari dunes; powdery beaches lapped by two oceans; star-studded desert skies; jagged, lush mountains - this truly is a country of astounding diversity.

Every country in the world displays some diversity, but South Africa, stretching from the hippos in the Limpopo River to the penguins waddling on the Cape, takes some beating. It befits its position at the southern end of the world’s most epic continent, with more types of terrain than photographers can shake their zoom lens at. There’s More than ever, intrepid travellers are making their way to Africa and there’s little wonder why. Come……experience the Rainbow Kingdom with us………

How do you capture the essence of Africa on paper without using up every cliche in the book? No other continent comes close to it for scale, variety & pure, raw impact.

Africa’s natural history alone would make a dozen visits worthwhile - where else on earth can you fall asleep to the sound of lions roaring, or watch a million flamingos take off from the waters of a remote soda lake? Parts of Africa boast scenery so spectacular they will damn near blow your mind, but the essence of this incredible continent isn’t in any desert, mountain or lake. It is the spirit of the people - pushing, shoving, sweating, dancing, singing & laughing - that infects so many visitors with a travel bug so powerful they will never stop coming back, sometimes against all sense or reason.

Debate with venerable merchants among the cool, narrow streets of an Arabic medina, dance to the thumping reggae beats coming from a West African market stall, or shoot the breeze with fishermen under Indian Ocean palm trees, and you will be struck more than anything else by the honesty, warm-heartedness & vitality of the African people.

Africa’s not always an easy place to travel in. It can be frustrating & challenging at times. Hardships & logistical disasters can happen. But don’t believe everything you see on TV: Africa is not a hell hole full of civil war, plague, famine & violent crime. It’s a fantastic, enlightening, surprising & intriguing continent. Try it once & we guarantee you will dream about coming back for the rest of your life.

Then, there is South Africa - a country on the southernmost tip of the African continent, marked by several distinct ecosystems.

History| Wildlife | Dramatic Landscapes | Cultural Experiences

South Africa is a country on the southernmost tip of the African continent, marked by several distinct ecosystems. Inland safari destination Kruger National Park is populated by big game. The Western Cape offers beaches, lush winelands around Stellenbosch & Paarl, craggy cliffs at the Cape of Good Hope, forest & lagoons along the Garden Route, and the city of Cape Town, beneath flat-topped Table Mountain.

Every country in the world displays some diversity, but South Africa, stretching from the hippos in the Limpopo River to the penguins waddling on the Cape, takes some beating. One of the continent's best safari destinations, it offers the Big 5 (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant & rhino) & more in accessible parks & reserves. You can drive right into the epic wilderness at Kruger, Kgalagadi and other parks, or join khaki-clad rangers on guided drives & walks. But it is not all about big-game sightings - wildlife watching here also teaches you to enjoy the little things: a leopard tortoise ambling alongside the road, a go-away bird chirping its distinctive chant in the trees, or an encounter with seals, whales or a great white shark along the coast.

To visit South Africa without learning about its tumultuous history would be to miss a crucial part of the country's identity. Museums from Jo'burg to Robben Island, many including exhibits on the apartheid era, might not be lighthearted, but will help you to understand the fabric of South African society & appreciate how far the country has come. Continue your history lesson with a township visit to the likes of Soweto (Jo'burg) or Langa (Cape Town), chatting to locals & learning that, despite the heart-wrenching past, there is great pride here & an immense sense of promise for the future.

South Africa's landscapes are stunning, from the burning Karoo & Kalahari semi-deserts to the misty heights of the Drakensberg range & the massive Blyde River Canyon. Even in urban Cape Town, you need only look up to see the beautiful fynbos (indigenous flora) climbing the slopes of Table Mountain, while nearby, two of the world's most dramatic coastal roads lead to Cape Point & Hermanus. Add the vineyards carpeting the Cape Winelands, old-growth forests along the Garden Route, wrinkly mountain ranges from the Cederberg to the Swartberg & Indian Ocean beaches, and there is a staggering variety to enjoy.

It befits its position at the southern end of the world’s most epic continent, with more types of terrain than photographers can shake their zoom lens at. There is the deserted Kalahari, Namakwa’s springtime symphony of wildflowers, iconic Table Mountain & Cape Point, Kruger National Park’s wildlife-stalked savannah (scene of the famous lion-buffalo-crocodile battle watched more than 40 million times on YouTube) and, running through the east of the country & into Lesotho, the Drakensberg. KwaZulu-Natal’s Simangaliso Wetland Park alone has five distinct ecosystems, attracting both zebras & dolphins.

If you are interested in another kind of wildlife, hit the nightclubs on Cape Town’s jumping Long St or sample African homebrew in a township shebeen (unlicensed bar). When it is time to reflect on it all, do it over seafood on the Garden Route, curry in Durban’s Indian Area, a sizzling Cape Malay dish, or a braai (barbecue) in the wilderness - accompanied by a bottle of pinotage produced by the oldest wine industry outside Europe.

Nonetheless, South Africans are some of the most upbeat, welcoming & humorous folk you will encounter anywhere, from farmers in the rural north who tell you to drive safely on those dirt roads, to Khayelitsha kids who wish you molo (‘good morning’ in Xhosa). Another point of unity in the diverse country is that of the malls & minibus taxis, bush pubs & shebeens

And there is still time for you to get over there & join the fun!

Good for the kids, good for the grown-ups, good for the whole family. A journey through the amazing kaleidoscope that is South Africa will allow you to enjoy this “Strong Man” of Africa in more ways than one.

When you leave Africa, as the plane lifts, you feel that more than leaving a continent you are leaving a state of mind. Whatever awaits you at the other end of your journey will be of a different order of existence.”  – Francesca Marciano

So expect an incredible atmosphere mixed with more unique & authentic experiences than you could ever hope to see in just one visit. Spectacular & surreal. Take the plunge now & yep… a warm welcome awaits you in the Rainbow Kingdom  & The Journeys is ready to take you on well, a journey (or journeys) of discovery.

Come…be inspired & discover the World with us
